Capital Campaign
Overview with Architectural Renderings and Floor Plans
The Bay Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, based in Galveston, Texas, is assembling there first ever capital campaign for improvements at two camp locations. One is on the island of Galveston itself, on the Texas A&M satellite campus crew program facility with its existing crew building, docks and pier. This will be the Bay Area Council’s Sea Base. The other location is Camp Karankawa, about 40 miles north of Freeport, Texas, outside of Sweeney, Texas.
Additionally, the campaign is structured to also provide an endowment fund for the maintenance of these two facilities as well as other camp properties and infrastructure.
At Sea Base a building is proposed to store the council’s smaller boats, all of the equipment for the various forms of boating that the council will provide, as well as changing facilities for men and women, a classroom for instructional purposes, office, and shelving systems for storage. Improved paving, parking areas, raised camp pads, and a pavilion structure is also proposed. Budgeted is a smaller storage building whose final location will be determined.
At Camp Karankawa the primary project is to construct a new dining hall central to the camping and Cub World areas. This is proposed to be next to the existing pavilion on what is now used as an assembly field area. Impact on the assembly field area is minimal and will provide three field areas of various size for various program usage. Septic fields would be separated and built new in addition to the building itself. Seating capacity would be nearly 300 campers.
