Scouts BSA Fall Camp 2021

Join us again this Fall at Camp Karankawa for Fall Camp. We launched a new program format that was a huge hit and provided our Scouts with a whole new camp experience. Scouts BSA can choose from tracks that are program-focused, while earning merit badges, and some Eagle-focused tracks. Scouts will be immersed in an experience that is fun and exciting.

CAMP K ACADEMY

Scout Academy is a new scout program where Scouts will work on the rank requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class and some First Class requirements.

CAMP K CONSTRUCTION

Are you handy with tools or want to learn to be? Then the Camp K Construction Team is the place for you. Experience painting, plumbing, home repairs, and other important skills needed to get the job done.

Merit Badge Focus: Automotive Maintenance, Electricity, Home Repair, Painting, Plumbing, Wood working

 

 

CAMP K LABS

Participate in various projects as you work hands-on with science projects. Design, build and test a robot, conduct science experiments, make a project out of composite materials and take a great field trip as you investigate nuclear science. White lab coats and goggles are available for the science team!

Merit Badge Focus: Chemistry, Composite Materials, Nuclear Science, Robotics

CAMP K OIL & GAS

Camp K has struck oil!  We need you to help run the start-up Camp K Oil & Gas Company. Help the CEO find a good well location, survey it, and build an oil well to get that black gold pumping.  What do you do with it once it’s out of the ground?  You’ll have to sell it somewhere.  Learn what it takes to make it in our modern energy world.

Merit Badge Focus: Engineering, Geology, Mining, Surveying

CAMP K RANCH

Saddle up and hit the Camp K Ranch! Out at the ranch you’ll ride horses, rope, work on farm equipment, shoot rifles, and try blacksmithing. Partake in a cowboy BBQ dinner, play horseshoes and see who comes out on top at the roping competition. Learn to be a Cowboy or Cowgirl and have a good-ole time.

Brand Making, Roping, BBQ Cooking

CAMP K ZOO

The Camp K Zoo needs trained Zookeepers and Veterinarians to learn all about the animals. Get hands-on at the Camp K Zoo and take part in field observations.
Gain knowledge needed to make the zoo a great place.

Animal Science, Bird Study, Mammal Study, Reptile & Am. Study, Vet. Medicine, STEM Nova

Activities: *Crocodile Encounters Field Trip 

COST: *Bring $30 to camp in the event that a field trip is approved.

CAMP K NATURALIST

Love Nature? Would you love to explore nature and the world around you through art & photography? Come create a personal Field Journal through scientific study and artistic observation while trekking through Camp K’s deep uncharted regions. Let that love for nature start right here at the Fall Camp experience and be a part of a new generation of Eco Artists and Naturalists.

SCOUTS OF THE FRONTIER

Go back to a simpler time, the time of the wild  frontier. Work with your hands in various projects you’ll need to live on the frontier.  Leather working, wood carving, metal working and basketry are essential skills you will master. Build a frontier project and get ready to go on an adventure in the wild frontier of Camp Karankawa. 

Merit Badge Focus: Basketry, Leatherwork, Metalwork, Pioneering, Wood Carving

COST: $25 per Scout.

SCOUT EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM (S.E.R.T.)

Emergencies can happen at any time. Will you be ready? The Camp K Scout Emergency Response Team (SERT) is looking for a few good Scouts to attend the SERT Academy. In the academy, you will learn the fundamentals of saving lives and helping people when it matters most.  There will be a mock plane crash Camp K.   Put your knowledge to the test in this intense but fun simulation.  You will work with REAL first responders as you navigate the scenario. 

Merit Badge Focus:
Emergency Prep*, First Aid*, Fire Safety, Search & Rescue

Activities:
S.E.R.T. Drill, CPR/AED First Aid, Fire Station Visit

COST: $50 deposit due at time of registration
$225 for in-council Scouts
$250 for out-of-council Scouts
$125 for adults

$100 for Counselors-in-Training
Staff and Merit Badge Counselors are complimentary

The Bay Area Council DOES NOT ACCEPT Maverick Scouts. SCOUTS MUST HAVE TWO-DEEP LEADERSHIP TO ATTEND CAMP. Your registration will be voided if you do not have 2 adults per Scout/Scout Unit.

ADULTS-IN-CAMP REQUIREMENTS PER BAY AREA COUNCIL & NATIONAL BSA:
- All adults must be registered members of the BSA. Click here to download application.

- Troops serving girls must have at least one trained female adult over the age of 21 in camp at all times.

COVID-19 POLICY
Camp Karankawa (Camp K) Outdoor Protocols
. While attending Camp K outdoors, masks are not mandated. All participants are encouraged to maintain safe distancing. Hand washing is encouraged, and hand sanitizers are to be available and placed for both participant and staff use. When outdoor activities places participants within two arms-length of each other, masks should be worn. (An example is use of the shooting ranges.) Masks should not be worn in the swimming pool. 

Camp Karankawa Indoor Protocols. While attending Camp K and indoors, all participants are required to wear masks. If the participants are eating or drinking masks may be removed until finished eating and/or drinking. This does not mean that one can simply walk around holding a drink and not wearing a mask. Masks are also not required if participants are distanced 6 feet apart. Hand washing is encouraged, and hand sanitizers are to be available and placed for both participant and staff use.

Adult Training Offered During Fall Camp

Adults do not have to register for Fall Camp to take this training.

IOLS Training, 8 a.m., Saturday Nov. 20 through Noon, Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021, REGISTER HERE

Working as patrols, this hands-on IOLS course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Along with Scoutmaster Specifics this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Scouts BSA troops in order to be considered "trained."

Scouts BSA Fall Camp - November 18-23, 2022

Cancellation Policy
Refunds will only be granted and paid to the original paying customer - the unit or individual. Refunds will only be considered under certain circumstances (sickness, death in family, summer school, military deployment or relocation only) as long as it is requested in writing, with back-up documentation, and received in the Scout Service Center, 3020 53rd Street, Galveston, TX 77551-5917. A 15% processing fee will be applied to all refunds. Refund requests due to light weather issues, homesickness, schedule conflicts, misinterpretation of printed council policies and procedures or reasons other than those noted above will not warrant a refund. In addition, partial refunds will not be granted for partial camp/event stays. If a camp or event is forced to be canceled by the council, because of severe weather, or circumstances prior to the camp or event occurring, the council will reschedule the camp/event or initiate the refund process. All requests are due to the council office no later than 15 days after the close of the event. Refunds will be issued in the form of a check within 30 days after a formal decision has been made.
