We all know that things can go very wrong at sea, but do you know what to do when bad goes to worse? Safety at Sea is designed to address safety concerns from crew-overboard situations to gear emergencies and even seasickness. The class will be taught in a Round-Robin style and is taught by professionals and dedicated volunteers, provding both novice and experienced sailors alike with the information and skills needed for sailing preparedness.

PLEASE NOTE:  Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Varsity Scouts are not eligible to attend this event if their primary registration is with a Pack, Troop, or Team. The event is only available for Venture Scouts and for Sea Scouts. However, if you are a youth that is 13 years of age and has completed the eighth grade, with an interest in joining a Sea Scout Ship or Venture Crew, you may attend the Safety at Sea Event as a guest participant with an existing Sea Scout Ship.

If you are a Sea Scout Ship or a Crew that is looking for overnight accommodations at the base please contact the base directly to secure a dorm room and or dockage for a ship if sailing to the base. There is a separate fee for this accommodation, and meals are not provided outside of the provided lunch for the day of the event. (Note: The deadline to register by is a firm deadline, as T-Shirt orders must be made in advance and allow for 10 full business days of production time prior to the November 8th event date)

Cancellation Policy: Refunds will only be granted to the original paying customer, whether it is the unit or individual. All unit refunds will be paid to the Committee Chairperson on record for that unit. All but 15% of an individual's fee is refundable, under certain circumstances (sickness, death in family, summer school, military deployment or relocation only) as long as it is requested in writing, with back-up documentation, and received in the Scout Service Center, 3020 53rd Street, Galveston, TX 77551-5917. Refund requests due to light weather issues, homesickness, and schedule conflicts, misinterpretation of printed council policies and procedures or reasons other than those noted above will not warrant a refund. In addition, partial refunds will not be granted for partial camp/event stays. If a camp or event is forced to be canceled by the council, because of severe weather, or circumstances prior to the camp or event occurring, the council will reschedule the camp/event or initiate the refund process. All requests are due to the council office within 15 days of the final day of the Camp/Event date.
