STEM Whoosh & Engineering Merit Badge - Boy Scouts 2014

TIME: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

DATE: December 20, 2014

PLACE: Sea Scout Base Galveston, 7511 Broadway, Galveston, TX 77554

COST: $35 for 1 Youth AND/OR 1 Parent/Guardian NOTE: For Boy Scout programs the parent/guardian is welcome to attend but not required.

PARTICIPANTS: 40 Scouts/40 parents

PLEASE BRING:

- Lunch/water bottle
- Rain gear
- Sweatshirt/light coat
- Pen & notebook
- Sunscreen/sunglasses
- Closed toe shoes - No sandals
- Scout uniform is not required but is encouraged...we want you to be comfortable. Pack & Troop - T-shirts are perfect.
- Completed prerequisites specific to the program you are attending
- Merit Badge Blue Card signed by your Scoutmaster
- Merit Badge book

PREREQUISITIES:

MERIT BADGE: 1) Research a manufactured item (toy or appliance) about how it works and why it works as it does and what sort of engineering activites were used to create this; 2) Research an engineering achievement that had a major impact on society: who made it, obstacles, and it's influence on the world.

STEM: 1) Must do their own research about motion and motion-inspired technology that has to be a total of 2 hours of shows and articles; 2) Must list two questions per article and show and be prepared to discuss in class.

Cancellation Policy: Refunds will only be granted to the original paying customer, whether it is the unit or individual. All unit refunds will be paid to the Committee Chairperson on record for that unit. All but 15% of an individual's fee is refundable, under certain circumstances (sickness, death in family, summer school, military deployment or relocation only) as long as it is requested in writing, with back-up documentation, and received in the Scout Service Center, 3020 53rd Street, Galveston, TX 77551-5917. Refund requests due to light weather issues, homesickness, and schedule conflicts, misinterpretation of printed council policies and procedures or reasons other than those noted above will not warrant a refund. In addition, partial refunds will not be granted for partial camp/event stays. If a camp or event is forced to be canceled by the council, because of severe weather, or circumstances prior to the camp or event occurring, the council will reschedule the camp/event or initiate the refund process. All requests are due to the council office within 15 days of the final day of the Camp/Event date.
