Council Vision for the Camping Program in the Bay Area Council

The Bay Area Council Scouters met on Wednesday January 31, 2007 to discuss the vision for camping at Camp K and the council. Here are some really great ideas and initiatives that will be developed.

1.  Summer Camp at Camp K will be geared to address the needs of the new scout and first year camper.

2. A second week at camp K will be introduced in 2008 which will be a specialty week packed full of really kool programs. The          programs would be a combination of cope, aquatics and backpacking as examples.

3. Galveston Sea Base opens up in the Summer of 2007 for coed youth members 14 years to 18 years. A one week program in 2007. Two weeks of Galveston Sea Base will be offered in 2008.

4. Backpack Leadership Challenge in 2008 in the Hill Country (2 crews of 12 youth spend a week in the back country in 2008. In 2009 two sessions will be offered.

The Bay Area Council is currently preparing for the program season at camp. There is a need -

1. Scouters who would like to go to BSA camp school to get certified in: Camp Director, Program Director, Shooting Sports Director, Cope, Climbing and Aquatics. The council will pay the camp fee for each scouter assigned to attend. If a scouter attends camp school the Bay Area Council asks that that scouter commit to at least two years of active service with a maximum of five years.
