IOLS Training

About

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) is a hands-on skills training in the outdoors, designed to help you master basic camp skills required for Tenderfoot to First Class. You will learn how to set up camp, cook, work with wood tools, knots, first aid, plan campfire programs, map and compass skills, hiking and backpacking techniques, nature identification and Leave No Trace.

Not required for Cub Scout leaders.

Registration

DATE: (Both IOLS parts are required, Practical & Virtual Training.)

Part 1: IOLS Practical Training – 5-9:30 p.m., Friday, November 6, 2020 & 8 a.m.-Noon, Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Camp Karankawa, 3249 FM 1459 Rd., Sweeny, TX 77480

Part 2: IOLS Virtual Training – 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Saturday, November 14, 2020
A link for Virtual Training will be supplied later. 

COST: $20. Food is provided and the participants in the IOLS training will be helping with the cooking!

MAX REGISTRANTS: 10. Enrollment will be limited to only 10 participants to help minimize COVID-19 concerns.

PLEASE BRING:

  • Face mask
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Tent
  • Sleeping gear
  • Cup/bowl/spoon
  • Pen/pencil/paper
  • Camp chair
  • Bug spray (in case)
  • Class A shirt and other clothing according to the weather.

Cancellation Policy
Refunds will only be granted to the original paying customer, whether it is the unit or individual. All unit refunds will be paid to the Committee Chairperson on record for that unit. All but 15% of an individual's fee is refundable, under certain circumstances (sickness, death in family, summer school, military deployment or relocation only) as long as it is requested in writing, with back-up documentation, and received in the Scout Service Center, 3020 53rd Street, Galveston, TX 77551-5917. Refund requests due to light weather issues, homesickness, and schedule conflicts, misinterpretation of printed council policies and procedures or reasons other than those noted above will not warrant a refund. In addition, partial refunds will not be granted for partial camp/event stays. If a camp or event is forced to be canceled by the council, because of severe weather, or circumstances prior to the camp or event occurring, the council will reschedule the camp/event or initiate the refund process. All requests are due to the council office 15 days prior to the start of the event. Refunds will be issued in the form of a check.
