Council Sustainability Update
To Bay Area Council Scouters,
As previously communicated by the Bay Area Council (BAC) President, Commissioner, and Interim Scout Executive regarding the challenges of the council, the Executive Board developed a sustainability committee and an exploratory committee focused on a path forward. The sustainability committee did an outstanding job presenting the input received from the listening sessions with volunteers and compiling detailed options for consideration on the path forward for scouting in the Bay Area Council. Discussions included budget forecasting, fundraising, personnel needs, executive board development, the preservation and infrastructure (program facilities) needs of Camp Karankawa, and most importantly, how to best serve current and future members in Galveston and Brazoria counties.
After the presentations and much discussion by the executive board members present, a vote was held. Although the vote was not unanimous, it was approved to proceed with establishing a full merger exploratory committee. The new committee will work toward the development of a merger plan with the Sam Houston Area Council (SHAC).
Moving forward, the Bay Area Council executive board will draft and approve a new charter document with a committee that aligns with the charter and the mission to develop a merger plan as an accepted option for the future of scouting in Brazoria and Galveston counties. Once developed, this plan will require the approval of the executive board.
Yours in Scouting,
Cory Moss, Council President
Derick meadows, Council Commissioner
René Monarez, Interim Scout Executive
