If Individuals are paying for themselves

IF YOU ARE NOT EXPIRED YET, BUT RENEWING:
Members or their parents/guardians will receive an email with a link 60 days before expiring reminding them to renew. Parents must log into their www.my.Scouting.org and follow the steps in this document:

IF YOU OR YOUR YOUTH IS ALREADY EXPIRED:
Parents will navigate to www.BEAScout.org to renew. From there, enter their zip code, then find the group, click "JOIN NOW" and follow the prompts. When asked if they have been in scouting before, click YES, and enter their scouts/Adults BSA Member ID# (this will connect them to their original Scout record.)

If the Unit is paying for memberships

If your unit decides to pay for all or some of your members:

You will need to renew members throughout the year when their renewals are due. This must be done by a Key 3. (Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, Committee Chair, or Chartered Organization Representative). They will log into www.my.Scouting.org and follow the steps in this document:

Unit Renewal Notes

RENEWAL NOTICES FROM NATIONAL: Every member will renew their membership online. Each member will receive an email renewal notice 60 days before your membership expires.
OPT OUT OF RENEWAL NOTICES: Unit Key 3 WILL BE able to choose to pay for some or all members. Units will be able to opt out a member if the member leaves. Just click the "Opt Out" next to their name on your roster in my.Scouting.org. This only stops emails from National. It does not do anything else.

Merit Badge Counselors

Beginning in August 2023, Merit Badge Counselors who are NOT REGISTERED as an adult leader in a unit will pay an annual fee of $25.
Merit Badge Counselors that are not registered in a unit position are not allowed to attend overnight Scouting activities/events.

Membership Fees

Effective April 1st, 2024, the BSA will implement the following national membership fees which were approved by the National Executive Committee:

$85, Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturers & Sea Scouts + $6 Bay Area Council Insurance fee
$65, adults + $6 Bay Area Council Insurance fee
$50, Exploring participants Youth & Adult + $6 Bay Area Council Insurance fee
$25 for Merit Badge Counselors not registered in a unit
$100 Unit Charter fee
$15 for Scout Life magazine (optional)

1. Turn in a copy of your Unit Renewal page reflecting future term.

2. Turn in a signed Annual Charter Agreement (you must download the file to enable eletronic signatures)

3. Turn in a Trained Leader Report
(Log into www.my.Scouting.org> click MENU> Click UNIT> Click TRAINING MANAGER.)

4. Turn in a Unit Account Authorization Form
(Scout Shop authorized users.)

5. Turn in your Friends of Scouting Suggested Visit Date

Turn everything in to your District Commissioner or turn it in at your District Roundtable.

Step-By-Step Unit Renewal in my.Scouting.org

WATCH THE UNIT RENEWAL TRAINING VIDEO HERE

1. Unit Renewal opens November 1st.

2. A Unit Key 3 must validate they have correct leadership:

1 - Chartered Organization Representative
1 - Cubmaster/Scoutmaster/Skipper or Advisor
1- Committee Chair
2 - Committee Members
1 - Den Leader (Cub Scouts only)

3. All adults must have current Safeguarding Youth Training.

4. Login at www.My.Scouting.org and go to Organization Manager (Key 3 have access only: Unit Leader, committee chair, or chartered organization representative).

5. Click On “Unit Renewal” on the menu.

6. Validate Key Leadership positions for year.

7. Make Changes To Leadership if needed in Position Manager – Have leaders take SYT Training if needed. (See #2 & #3)

8. E-Sign the Page.

9. Pay and Submit. National charges an $8/per month renewal fee. ($108 for 12 months, etc.) If you choose the credit card option, you will be charged a 3% fee. The ACH option does not have this fee.

REMINDER: Key 3 must re-set Functional Positions such as Unit Advancement Chair, Treasurer, etc. after they complete their Unit renewal each year, otherwise access to Scoutbook, Leads, etc. goes away.
